Organisational Capability

We understand that business strategy, planning and organisational capability are a complex system of linkages, and so we are happy to partner with you in whichever area is uppermost in your mind. You could begin by assessing your current level of organisational capability, and then compare this with your strategic requirements. Or you could start be exploring your strategy and what capabilities it demands you have in place.

We view client interactions as a journey to improve organisational performance; sometimes it is clear where things are going, sometimes it is not, but there is a strong and continuous desire to improve. Once action is taken, this will often lead to other steps becoming clearer. As with any journey where the final destination is not entirely clear, starting out can be very quick, but once the outcomes of initial diagnostics are known, the necessary actions may be short, medium or long-term. Once we begin the journey, it becomes much easier to see how the component parts of the organisational system interact, and get a sense of where best to invest the time and effort needed to bring about transformation.

We believe in a practical approach to developing Organisational Capability and to assist with this approach we have identified the component parts that when brought together successfully lead to the ongoing development of Organisational Capability.

The approach adopted by most organisations tends to ignore the importance of factoring in during the Strategic and Business planning process, the Organisations capability to deliver against its goals and objectives. Our experience tells us that most organisations ’assume’ they are capable of delivering their plans. We argue that this approach misses some critical discussions that should be an integral part of the planning process. The discussions should ask the following questions:

’Do we know what our current levels of organisational capability are?’
’Do we know what level of organisational capability we need to be successful?’
’What should our priorities be?’
’How do we build these priorities into our plans?’

If these questions are not asked, there is danger of plans not being realised as effectively as they could be. Our approach is to lead organisations through a structured process that gets these questions (and more besides) on the table and answered to the satisfaction of our clients
